"Angels in Disguise" by Janice Luckey

 – We take for granted that time is on our side.

Whereas Marta was quiet, Sal was boisterous—a bull-in-the-china-shop variety.

Janice Luckey, who lives in Mooresville, North Carolina, remembers when writing became a rhythm of her life. She scribbled a romance novel in a 3-ring binder in junior high school sparking a life-long love of all things writerly—writing, reading, journaling and hoarding office supplies. Janice is fueled by the love and support of her family and most anything chocolate. When not writing, she can be found making memories with her husband and four granddaughters or roaming the aisles of libraries, bookstores, and Staples.

Author’s Talk

Janice Luckey

I never thought I would write a story like “Angels in Disguise,” but who ever does? My husband and I were only several years into retirement when his accident occurred. We, of course, had big plans—to travel, to swim in aqua water, to volunteer.  Italy cruise brochures lay on the coffee table. All these plans disappeared as we tried to navigate through the hole blown into our life. Such a learning curve! It took two years before I could write this story, that long to gain a new perspective on our new reality. We’ve come a long way with miles more to go, but I endeavored to portray the hope and humor required to make a way through. Grief counselor and author, Megan Devine, warns, “Some things cannot be fixed. They can only be carried.” I pray you received some comfort and a chuckle from my story as you perhaps face your own trials that you must carry.—Janice Luckey
