"An Encounter Beyond the Boundaries" by Janice Luckey - reprise from Oct. 9, 2021

—a brush with my bugaboo

A brother’s seeming “betrayal” awakens a loyal kid sister as his fiercest champion and ally.

Janice Luckey, who lives in Davidson, North Carolina, is a member of the Write On! writing group sponsored by her local library as well as the online writing group Impromptu. Writing became a rhythm of her life when she scribbled a romance novel in a 3-ring binder in junior high school. This sparked a life-long love of all things writerly—writing, reading, journaling and hoarding office supplies. Janice was a contributor to the 2020 and 2021 Personal Story Publishing Projects. You can see more of her stories at LKNConnect.com. When Janice isn’t writing she can be found encouraging her four granddaughters’ creativity or roaming libraries, bookstores, and Staples.

Author’s Talk

Janice Luckey

Streisand sang of misty, water-colored memories, but my story is built from memories not so blurry and hazy. The childhood memories of “An Encounter Beyond the Boundaries” are more the Mt. Rushmore type—chiseled from the granite of my senses. I vividly recall how the hermit smelled of sweat and Ben Gay, the flickering sadness across my father's handsome face, the shrillness of my screams for help reverberating in my own ears.

I've held fast to these memories over the years, knowing that, somehow, they held answers to some part of my life. Finally, in this story they coalesce into the point of origin of how I chose to live my life. I hope you enjoyed my story.  It took a lifetime to write.
